Puget Sound Welcome Back Center
Burst for Prosperity and Highline Community College partnered in 2008 to launch the Puget Sound Welcome Back Center (WBC). Its doors opened in October 2008 and in a short three months more than 100 immigrant and refugees were enrolled in the various WBC program offerings.
The WBC assists internationally trained medical professionals living in Washington, most of whom are currently working in low-wage jobs outside the medical profession, with meeting U.S. educational, professional, and licensing standards so they can practice in their fields. In doing so the WBC also ensures a supply of linguistically and culturally competent health professionals to fill high-demand jobs and provide accessible services in at-risk communities.
