Advisory Board

  • Ken Curl is employed by King County of Washington State. He has been with Burst for Prosperity since its inception. Ken believes that his life's work is helping those that are less fortunate.
  • Annie Dunn has worked in both microenterprise and community enterprise development since earning her Masters in Public Administration in 2004. She believes there is nothing more exciting than seeing what can be achieved when people across the sectors of the community work collaboratively on shared goals, something that Burst's work demonstrates beautifully.
  • William Hopper has worked with various community-based, nonprofit organizations in South King County including the Tukwila Pantry. His involvement with Burst for Prosperity began in 2003 and he joined the Advisory Board in 2005. William's dedication arises from a commitment to help build a more equitable and egalitarian community.
  • Marisol Tapia has worked with immigrants and refugees in south King County since 2003 and is currently employed as a program manager for a local non-profit in Renton. She has been involved with Burst for Prosperity since 2003 and has served on the Advisory Board since 2005. Marisol's commitment is driven by her desire to help others in need to find opportunities to better their lives.
  • Sherry Williams has been employed at Technology Access Foundation (TAF) for the past 13 years and is currently the Deputy Director. TAF prepares underserved children of color for higher education and professional success by providing a rigorous and relevant K-12 curriculum. Sherry joined the Burst for Prosperity Advisory Board because of her personal experience with generational poverty and TANF. Sherry's passion is to make change in welfare policy and continue to make a difference by helping to create opportunities by giving those struggling in poverty a voice that empowers them to direct their own path to sustainability.
  • Walt Yeager has been involved in the telecommunications and IT Industry for many years. He believes his business background will be invaluable to his work on the Advisory Board. Walt joined Burst for Prosperity because of his interest in economic development initiatives — he believes job coaching is a critical component of the work.
  • Laura Zera has worked in microenterprise in South Africa, Seattle, and Cameroon. Since 2008, Laura has worked in the field of software application development as a senior consultant for Fujitsu America. Laura is committed to the creation of pathways out of poverty, and believes that Burst for Prosperity's systemic approach will lead to long-term change.
 

Methodology

    Burst for Prosperity staff works with the community to learn and research the systemic barriers of the low-income population.

  • Pilot Programs

    We strategically allocate resources to conduct scalable or replicable pilot programs in order to demonstrate effective solutions that assist individuals with building both personal and financial assets that promote long term sustainable financial independence.

  • Policy Advocacy

    After successful demonstrations through pilot projects, Burst for Prosperity works to advocate and educate community partners and govenment leaders.

  • Systems Change

    Our end goal is sustain and embed systems change that directly reflects the needs and desires of the communities being served.
